Types of Sphero BOLT+ Warnings
In rare cases, you may notice temperature warning popups while using the Sphero Edu app with your Sphero BOLT+. The documentation below provides details on the cause of these warnings as well as instructions on what to do when these occur.
Temperature Warning
Sphero BOLT+ has a sealed shell. If usage and environmental factors are just right, the temperature may rise inside the shell and cause a warning to occur. Contributing factors include:
- Extensive usage of the display (while displaying images, animations, and text)
- Extensive usage of the motors (while driving)
- Charging in the cradle
- Being exposed to high environmental temperatures
- Being exposed to direct sunlight or other sources of intense light
How do I Fix This?
Though you may get the temperature warning, your Sphero BOLT+ is still within a safe operating temperature range. All systems and features of your BOLT+ will continue to work, including motors, sensors, LEDs, and the display. However, you may consider moving out of direct sunlight or into a cooler environment if you intend to continue with extensive use of your BOLT+.
Critical Temperature Warning
If internal temperatures continue to rise, you may see a critical temperature warning. When this occurs, the Sphero BOLT+ will take measures to protect the display and temporarily disable it.
How do I Fix This?
Since the display is disabled, functionality of your Sphero BOLT+ will be limited until the temperature returns to a standard internal operating range. We recommend you disconnect from your BOLT+ and let it power down. Keeping it out of direct sunlight and out of the charging cradle will help ensure it cools quickly. All features should be re-enabled after approximately 30 minutes.
