indi™ Care and CleaningUpdated 8 months ago
Why might you need to clean your indi™?
Your indi™ robot works by reading Cards and Tiles with its Color Sensor, and are often picked up and handled when in use.
Oils from your skin and dust from the environment can build up over time as a result of this handling.
If you have many students using the robots, you may also want to disinfect them from time to time to minimize the spread of germs.
This build-up can also occur on the contacts used for charging your indi™ within the Class Pack Charging Case, which can affect the charging quality of certain slots.
Notes and Tips
Do not use any cleaners that contain ammonia, acetone, or other harsh chemicals that may damage the plastic.
Do not use disinfecting wipes with an active ingredient of Quarternary Ammonium on the inside of the Charging Case.
Alcohol Pads for cleaning glasses or for first aid kits are an easy and less-mess option for teachers to keep on hand!
How do I clean indi™?
We recommend using isopropyl alcohol and a clean, soft, lint-free method of application such as microfiber cloth, a cotton bud, or paper towel. Your isopropyl alcohol should be at least 70% concentration, but 90% concentration or higher is best if you are only cleaning the charging contacts. Have an adult complete the following steps in a well-ventilated area:
- Make sure your indi™ is turned off and disconnected from any USB cables. Remove any stickers or appliques that you do not want to be damaged by the isopropyl alcohol.
- Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to your applicator. It should be damp, but not dripping.
- Gently wipe all surfaces of your indi™, paying special attention to the color sensor and copper charging contacts on the bottom of the robot.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE USB CHARGING PORT OR ALLOW LIQUID TO POOL IN THE CHARGING PORT OR POWER BUTTON
- Allow the indi™ to sit for at least 15 minutes after cleaning so that any residual isopropyl alcohol can evaporate before returning to use or charging.

How do I clean my indi™ Durable Tiles?
We recommend using mild dish soap and warm water, with a clean soft applicator such as a sponge, washcloth, or paper towels.
- Gently brush any large dirt or debris from the Tiles.
- Use your applicator to gently wipe the surface of your Tiles.
- If there is debris that does not easily wipe away with soap and water, you may allow the Tile or Tiles to soak in warm soapy water for a few minutes to soften stubborn gunk. DO NOT SCRUB
- Pat excess water from the surface of the Tiles dry, and wait to be sure the Tiles are fully dry before use or storing
