Blueprint Engineering Power Bit FAQUpdated 14 days ago

What is the Power Bit?

The Power Bit is a rechargeable battery that powers all Blueprint Bits. It's the first bit you will connect in a circuit - it provides steady, regulated power to the connected bits.

Charging the Power Bit

There are two ways to charge your Power Bit:

  • Use a USB-C cable plugged into any USB power source

  • Use the Multi Power Bit Charger to charge up to 6 Power Bits at once

💡 Tip: A full charge takes approximately 3.5 hours from empty.

Battery Life

Battery life varies depending on your circuit:

  • Up to 12 hours with light use

  • As little as 1 hour if using power-hungry components

Can the Power Bit be used while charging?

No. While charging, the Power Bit's output is turned off. Students can’t build or power circuits until charging is complete.

What do the lights mean?

Battery Level LEDs:

  • Solid red bars show current charge level:

    • 1 bar: 0–25%

    • 2 bars: 25–50%

    • 3 bars: 50–75%

    • 4 bars: 75–100%

  • If battery is critically low (0–25%), the first LED flashes for 60 seconds

Charging LEDs:

  • When charging, LEDs light up solid for each completed level and the current level flashes

  • When fully charged, all LEDs stay on for 30 seconds, then turn off to save power

Power Button LED:

  • On when the Power Bit is active

  • Flashes if there’s an error

What happens if something goes wrong?

  • If a port error is detected, the Power Bit shuts off its outputs to protect itself

  • In charging errors, LEDs will continuously flash until the issue resolves

What are the different charging error indicators?

If there’s a problem, the Power Bit will flash a pattern on the battery LEDs. Here’s what the flashing means. If you receive any of the below errors, please take a picture and email [email protected] for further assistance.

  • ⚫⚫⚫🔴 – Battery Error

  • ⚫⚫🔴⚫ – Temperature Error

  • ⚫⚫🔴🔴 – Thermal Shutdown

  • ⚫🔴⚫⚫ – OTG Issue

  • ⚫🔴⚫🔴 – Voltage Collapse

  • ⚫🔴🔴⚫ – Temp Handling Failed

Does the Power Bit turn off automatically?

Yes. To save energy - if the Power Bit is on but unplugged, and Bits are connected, it will automatically shut off after 60 minutes of use.

How do I wake up the Power Bit?

You can wake it by:

  • Pressing the power button (if not in shipping mode)

  • Plugging it into a power source (USB-C or charger)

  • Shipping Mode Wake

Can I use two Power Bits in one circuit?

Yes—but don’t worry about overloading. Only one Power Bit will supply power, even if two are connected, thanks to built-in safety features.
