It's best to review the United States Federal Aviation Association's (FAA) guidelines for products that contain lithium ion batteries when planning to fly with your Sphero. These FAA guidelines state, "devices containing lithium metal batteries or lithium ion batteries, including – but not limited to – smartphones, tablets, cameras and laptops, should be kept in carry-on baggage. If these devices are packed in checked baggage, they should be turned completely off, protected from accidental activation and packed so they are protected from damage."
If you are flying with the Blueprint Engineering Power Bit, you can put the Power Bit into shipping mode by following these steps. When in shipping mode, the Power Bit cannot be turned on by pressing the red power button, and can therefore be packed in checked baggage.
- Plug in the Power Bit to either the multi-charger or into a charging source using the USB charging cord
- Once plugged in, press and hold the red power button
- While holding the button, remove the battery from the multi-charger, or unplug it from the USB cable
- Continue to hold the red power button for 5 seconds
- Shipping mode will activate - in shipping mode, the red power button will not turn on the Power Bit
- To exit shipping mode, plug the Power Bit into either the. multi-charger or into a charging source using the USB charging cord
